7有落在荆棘里的,荆棘长起来,把它挤住了,就不结实;
8又有落在好土里的,就发生长大,结实有三十倍的,有六十倍的,有一百倍的”;
The Parable of the Sower
1Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge.
2He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said:
3“Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.” 9Then Jesus said,
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
看是看见,却不晓得;
听是听见,却不明白;
10When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.
11He told them,
“The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables “ ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’ ”
The words of God’s message are open to everyone, but the deeper truths and mysteries behind those words can only be understood through the direct revelation of the Holy Spirit or the clear teaching of Jesus Christ.
This shows that the mysteries of God's kingdom are revealed only to His disciples. For those whose hearts are hardened, who are spiritually blind, who resist God and oppose Him, who blaspheme the Holy Spirit, and who refuse to believe that the Son of Man, Jesus, is the incarnate Son of God—those who even crucified Him—God has blocked their understanding, so they cannot see or grasp the deeper truths behind His parables.
Why does God say, “lest they turn and be forgiven”?
Because those who are merely blind and ignorant may still have hope of repentance, but the defiant blasphemers, slanderers, and those who passionately called for the crucifixion of the Son of Man will never be forgiven by God.Even if they want to turn back to God, He will not give them the opportunity!
13Then Jesus said to them,
“Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14The farmer sows the word. 15Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
Seeds sown along the path represent those without God’s protection, where Satan can easily snatch the word away. Seeds on rocky ground represent people with stubborn hearts and no foundation; they may enjoy God’s word at first but cannot withstand trials from above. Seeds among thorns symbolize those whose worldly desires—attachment to the flesh, pursuit of fame, and greed for wealth—drain the nourishment of God’s word, blocking the path to heavenly truth.
People’s hearts are like different types of soil—“the path, rocky ground, thorny ground, and good soil.” The same seed produces different results depending on the soil it lands on.
The church is God’s home on earth, where the good, fertile soil is found. Only when seeds are sown in the soil of the church can they bear fruit. Only believers within the church can truly hear and receive the word, leading to fruitfulness. And only the body of Christ, with Christ as its head, can produce heavenly results.
A Lamp on a Stand
21He said to them,
“Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.” 24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued.
“With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more. 25Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
A lamp is placed on a stand to provide better light.
The grace of the gospel is the eternal, unquenchable true light. God’s only Son became flesh and came into the world to be its light. Even if a lit lamp is placed under a bowl or a bed, its light will still shine through. The Pharisees and scribes tried to deny Jesus’ identity as the Son of God by crucifying Him, attempting to hide and suppress the coming reality of God’s kingdom. But the light of truth cannot be hidden or suppressed, and the arrival of God’s kingdom cannot be stopped by anyone! Therefore, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
Spiritual gifts are heavenly treasures—the more you share them, the more you will receive, and in the end, what you gain will far exceed anything you could imagine! On the other hand, if you refuse to share the gifts you’ve received, even the little you have will be taken away.
28地生五谷是出于自然的:先发苗,后长穗,再后穗上结成饱满的子粒;
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26He also said,
“This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
A farmer sows seeds and eventually harvests ripe grain, but he does not fully understand what happens beneath the soil day by day. He doesn’t know exactly when or how the seeds sprout, emerge, grow, form heads, and fill with grain. This is not the farmer’s doing—it is the work of nature. Yet we know that all of nature and its order come from the Creator’s wondrous design.
The kingdom of God works in a similar way. God sowed His only Son, like a seed, into the world to go through the process of growth, culminating in the harvest of fully mature grain. The difference is this: the earth produces grain naturally, but the growth of the Son of Man—His crucifixion, resurrection after three days, and ultimate glorification—comes from God’s magnificent plan of redemption! Just as a single grain of wheat is buried to produce many new grains, so Jesus’ death brings forth abundant new life.
The seed of resurrection for God’s kingdom has been sown in the hearts of those who believe in Him. Seek and hunger for the nourishment of the Lord’s grace! For at the final harvest, the full and mature grain will be gathered into the Master’s barn, while the empty husks will be burned away with fire.
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
30Again he said,
“What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
God’s only Son humbled Himself in the most lowly way, becoming flesh and entering the world.
Jesus was born into an obscure, poor carpenter’s family in a small, insignificant town. He came into the world in a broken stable, placed in a manger, within a rundown inn on a remote road. This level of poverty and humility was unparalleled at the time, like the smallest mustard seed among all seeds.
Yet the mustard seed grows into the largest of garden plants, so large that even birds can perch in its shade.
Likewise, the Son of Man grew up, called His disciples, preached the gospel, was crucified, rose again after three days, ascended to heaven in glory, and now sits at the right hand of the Father. Even Satan is subject to His authority.
Let it be declared once again: The kingdom of heaven is the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Lord Jesus Christ is the kingdom of God!
33With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.
34He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Why did the Lord Jesus teach in parables in front of the crowds but reveal the truth of the gospel only to His disciples?
This does not mean Jesus gave up on saving the general public. As He said, “The Son of Man did not come to destroy lives but to save them.” It shows that Jesus openly declared, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
All who are descended from Adam are sinners. Everyone has sinned, but only those who first recognize their sins and sincerely repent can become disciples of Jesus Christ. Therefore, the mysteries of the gospel are revealed only to His disciples. The purpose is clear: to lead people to repentance, faith, and a life of following the Lord.
From another perspective, if the Lord Jesus were to reveal the mysteries of God’s word to everyone, there would be no distinction between disciples and non-disciples. If that were the case, what would be the purpose of baptism for repentance? If baptism were unnecessary, then John the Baptist would not need to be born. And if John were not born, there would be no need for God to answer Elizabeth’s prayer for a child.
Jesus Calms the Storm
35That day when evening came, he said to his disciples,
“Let us go over to the other side.” 36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.
37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.
38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves,
“Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40He said to his disciples,
“Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
1,主的话,门徒“听是听见,却听不明白”。确实主耶稣说了很明确的话(“我们渡到对岸去吧。”),但当狂风巨浪的困难临头时,肉体的恐惧还是令门徒信心锐减;
2,风浪袭来,主就在船尾枕头而睡,门徒“看是看见,却不晓得”。明明主真真切切地在门徒身边,门徒却不晓得有主在便有安息的实际;
When the Lord Jesus said to His disciples, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" what was the basis of this question?
The Lord's Word Was Clear, Yet Misunderstood:
Jesus had said plainly, "Let us cross over to the other side," giving assurance of their destination. However, when faced with the storm’s challenges, the disciples’ fear in their flesh overwhelmed their faith, causing them to doubt His words.
The Lord's Presence Was Evident, Yet Unrecognized:
Although Jesus was physically with them, sleeping on a pillow in the stern of the boat, the disciples failed to realize the reality of His presence. They saw Him but did not grasp that having the Lord with them meant true peace and safety, even amidst the storm.
The Disciples’ Reaction Was Fearful and Faithless:
Their cry, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" revealed both fear and exaggeration. They assumed the worst (perishing) and even questioned Jesus' concern for them ("Do You not care?"), losing sight of His power and care.
Our Lord, being full of understanding and compassion, did not rebuke or show frustration when the disciples woke Him in panic. Instead, He calmed the storm first, demonstrating His authority, before gently addressing their lack of faith.
By rebuking the wind and waves, the Lord’s primary intent was not to perform a miracle for awe but to strengthen the disciples' faith. He reminded them that He is the Lord of all creation, the One who has power over every circumstance. With the Lord in their midst, there is no need for fear—everything is under His sovereign care and provision.
